ELEPHANT SEAL EXCURSION AT ANO NUEVO STATE PARK
SATURDAY & SUNDAYS, Jan. 21, Jan. 29, Feb. 5, Feb. 18, Feb. 26
Location: Año Nuevo State Park (approx. 25 minutes north of Santa Cruz on Hwy 1, meet at visitor center parking lot)

Cost: $10/person (plus a parking fee of $10/vehicle) 

Año Nuevo State Reserve is the site of the largest mainland breeding colony in the world for the northern elephant seal.  Elephant seals, sea lions, and other marine mammals come ashore to rest, mate, and give birth in the sand dunes and on the beaches.  It is a unique and unforgettable natural spectacle that hundreds of thousands of people come to witness each year. Join us for a fully-accessible stroll led by informative park docents.  Afterwards, you can check out the Visitor Center which features natural history exhibits.  Rain or shine—the seals love the rain and are more active in it, so bring a poncho and brave the weather for this amazing opportunity!  This popular activity fills up very quickly.  Call early to reserve your spot!

BOWLING BY THE BOARDWALK

What better way to spend a rainy season afternoon?  Come out of the cold, and join us for a fun filled early evening at the lanes!  The bowling alley has recently purchased new ramps and adaptive equipment to make this sport even more easy, fun, and rewarding for people of all abilities.  Share some laughs and make new friends while practicing your technique at a great spot near the ocean.   Great for all ages!

BINGO NIGHTS

VALENTINE'S DAY DANCE PARTY

BOCCE BALL AT BOCCI'S CELLAR

Bocci’s Cellar will host Shared Adventures the 2nd Saturday of each month for an early afternoon of Bocce games.  This exciting activity, resembling lawn bowling, can be a great way to meet new friends and try out a competitive sport.  Whether you are new to the game or come with a plethora of experience you are welcome to join!

CERAMIC PAINTING AT PETROGLYPH

Meet new friends in a fun atmosphere while expressing your individual creativity.  Choose from a variety of ceramic pieces including plates, bowls, and statuettes, and paint your vision on a self created souvenir. Petroglyph will provide supplies and support, glazing by their trained staff, and kiln firing.

MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM & DINNER AT CANNERY ROW

Join us for a day at one of the largest and most respected aquariums in the world!  The Aquarium holds 35,000 plants and animals representing 550 species.  We will see the biggest permanent collection of jellyfish in the U.S., look through the world's largest window to get a diver's eye view of a kelp forest and its inhabitants, and walk through a tunnel where we can let a wave crash over us without getting wet!  After our adventure, there will be the option to walk one block to a 40’s-style family diner to have dinner together.

SAILING TOWARD THE PARALYMPICS

Cost: $40 for 2 lessons

In this course you will be introduced to small boat sailing by learning those mysterious nautical terms, the "Rules of the Road”, how to rig your boat and take it sailing and much, much more!  Space is limited so reserve your spot early

INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING

Try out the fun and challenging sport of rock climbing in a supportive environment with experienced belayers to guide you.  We will have our own room at Pacific Edge, one of the Central Coast’s most renowned climbing gyms.  Prepare to reach new heights and have a great time!

IMAX MOVIE AT THE TECH MUSEUM

Home to one of the only IMAX Dome Theaters in Northern California, the theater at The Tech is the ultimate movie experience with crystal clear images up to eight stories high!  The show will last approx. 45 min, after which we can explore the interactive Tech Museum.  With over 240 unique hands-on experiences, there's sure to be something for all ages and interests!

With more than 300 of the most popular video and pinball games, laser tag, billiards, ping pong, and special attractions just steps from the beach and Boardwalk rides, this is a bonanza of fun for all ages!  A variety of activities are available, from the latest in high-tech adventures and interactive games, to air hockey, an ice cream stand, and a two-story miniature golf course.  You can also win tickets from games such as Skee Ball and trade them in for prizes!

Shared Adventures will be featured in the Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery (SCMB) Thank You Thursday program on April 19th!  SCMB will donate one dollar for every pint of beer purchased throughout the day.  Beers featured are all handcrafted, microbrewed organic ales, and business hours are Noon to 10pm.  Please spread the word, grab a pint, and support Shared Adventures!

At this year’s Day in the Sky, Shared Adventures will host one of the largest Accessibilities Expos on the Central Coast!  The Expo will include: BBQ lunch, live music, 100+ informational booths and exhibits from local and national organizations, a bounce house, petting zoo, and much more.  There will also be a static display of planes for people to tour with pilots offering on-the-ground basic aviation training.  Mark your calendar now for one of our most exciting events of the year!  For more event info, check dayinthesky.org after March 28 or contact us to join our email list.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES

OUR SHARED GARDEN
MONDAYS & FRIDAYS (Depending on Weather) No Class on Holidays
Location: Trescony Park Community Garden (Trescony St., S.C.)    
Time: 12:30 – 2:30pm
Cost:  FREE!

Everyone is welcome to join whether you are new to gardening or come with a plethora of experience.  We now have 7 raised garden beds (200+ sq ft) at the Trescony Park Community Gardens!  We’ll spend afternoons in the fresh air sowing seeds, watering, weeding, pruning, harvesting and enjoying.  Come watch the greenery grow and reap the harvest through the year!  Wear comfortable clothes that you won’t mind getting dirty, and make sure to bring a sun hat.  This ongoing project is for all ages to enjoy. 

We have a new Garden Program Manager, Kate Purcell! Kate comes with an abundance of gardening and teaching experience, managing one school garden life lab in Los Gatos, one in Watsonville, as well as running her own garden business, Kate's Kitchen Gardens.

Young Artists' Studio is expanding! Adults now have their own classes at Hope Services in Santa Cruz on Tuesdays. Kids have classes at Branciforte Small Schools on Wednesdays. Classes are for people with and without special needs. Students work with many creative mediums including printmaking, painting, ceramics, and photography. They also benefit from the expertise of guest artists, learn about master artists, take field trips to view local art, and participate in art shows. New students are always welcome!
